In the scene from Dawn of the Dead (2004) the news reporter is in the middle-east reporting about the zombie infection, this connotes that the infection has originated from the Middle-East. This was done purposely as the attack on the Twin Towers by Al Qaeda on 9/11 was still fresh in the audience’s minds, so this disturbs us as we fear another terrorist attack could happen at any time. Also in the opening credits there is a clip of some Muslims in a mosque praying, so this once again connotes that the virus has come from the Middle East. The credits once again show that linking to the historical context is a powerful technique horrors often use to make their audiences shudder.
